Program Description
Mechatronics is a new and rapidly growing field that integrates electronics, mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics, and computer control systems to create new and improved automated manufacturing production systems. This program is designed for people who are interested in plant maintenance, set up, installation, and assembly. These jobs are found in medical, electronics, agriculture, biotechnology, and automotive industries.

Civil Engineering Technology Degree
Program Description
The Civil Engineering Technology program prepares students for employment as engineering technicians. Students will learn engineering planning, design, project management, surveying and construction inspection techniques associated with municipal projects. The program utilizes SCC’s first ever laptop program.
Civil engineering technicians help civil engineers plan and build highways, buildings, bridges, dams, wastewater treatment systems, and other structures,
as well as do related research.
Employment Opportunities
Civil Engineering Technicians can find employment in cities of all sizes. Typical employers include engineering and surveying consulting firms, local municipalities such as city, county, and state departments, EPA, USGS, Corps of Engineers, the Department of Transportation and private contractors. Locally, starting salaries are around $35,000/year for a 40 hour week with opportunity for overtime during the construction season. Experienced technicians have a salary range around $55,000/year.

Computer Integrated Machining
Program Description
SCC’s Computer Integrated Machining program prepares individuals for a highly-skilled career in the manufacturing industry. Students learn how to use machines to make various parts for the repair, design, or manufacture of other products. SCC offers a variety of options that consist of both classroom and lab experiences. Hands-on application through the completion of projects will be emphasized. Students will become familiar with computer software application (CAD/CAM), design methods, manufacturing processes, and safety practices associated with the manufacturing industry.
Associate in Applied Science Degree – 72 Credits
Diploma – 63 Credits
Certificate – 30 Credits
In addition, SCC offers online ToolingU Machine Shop Training through its Center for Business and Industry division.

Industry leaders in southern Minnesota anticipated a growing need for technicians with a unique combination of skills, including mechanical, electronic, computer application, pneumatic and hydraulic, to help install and maintain their automated systems.
